We were telling some funny Felicity stories and the story below came up.  I asked Felicity if I could share this again with you all.  She was all in, so here we go!

God can use ANY situation to teach and this is a pretty gross one, so if you are squeamish, just skip on down to the next post on this site, and have a wonderful day.  You have been warned!

So, when Felicity was 6 Matt and I took the girls to see our niece and nephew in the Sparkman HS band.  The girls were so excited for this.  As their mom, I know that even though we were having dinner before the game, the concession stand would sing their name like the song of the Sirens in Homer’s Odyssey.  So I had come prepared. I had four movie theater size boxes of candy for a group of about 10 of us to share.  As expected the girls were dying to have something from the concession stand at the exact moment the band was headed out to play.  So thinking ahead, I saved the day (I thought) and no one had to wait in line and we all got to enjoy the marching bands.

So, Felicity ate her candy pretty quick like a 6 year old does.  Then she gave me a sweet big-eyed look and said, “Mom, I noticed you are not eating your candy, if you don’t want it, I will take it.”  So of course I gave it to her.  What I did not know then, that I know now, is that she then did this with EVERY person in our group and ended up eating a combine total of about 3 theater size boxes of candy.

So the next day she informs us that she is not feeling well.  This is while we are driving on a back county road to Matt’s sister’s home.  Then it began.  Neon Sour Patch candy colored vomit began to flow.  Everywhere.  EVERYWHERE.  And it spewed all over everything.  EVERYTHING.

Gross right!  I told this story to someone and they said,  “you can get a sermon out of that!”  Immediately I heard God whisper, “Yes, what you put in your heart in little doses at a time, will come out in one big dose and spew EVERYWHERE and on EVERYTHING!”

The Bible in Colossians 3:2 says, “Focus your minds on the things above, not on things here on earth.”  There are many verses like this throughout the Bible.  But this one is the beginning of a chapter that then goes into how to live your life and how to behave in many important relationships in your life.  So why start that way?  Because God knows that what we put in our mind, what we dwell on, what we think about is what comes out all over the most important people in our lives.

I challenge you to stop a moment and think about what you are dwelling on and how it is impacting you and everyone and everything around you.  For example, is it stress, anxiety or worry, or are you feeding your mind His Word?  He is for you and not against you.  He will walk you through every situation.  Lean into Him, depend on Him.  Meditate on His word, and that is what will flow out of you onto everyone and everything in your life.

Because, on the winding back roads of life – it will come out.  And I don’t know about you, but I would greatly prefer the things of God come out of me than smelly neon colored goo.
